Restoring predictability to North American trade is the best way to create jobs and keep prices in check, says AmCham

OTTAWA, ON – The American Chamber of Commerce in Canada (AmCham Canada) is urging policy- and decision-makers in both Canada and the United States to continue to work cooperatively to resolve the damaging trade dispute that is disrupting supply chains, raising costs for businesses and consumers, and putting jobs at risk on both sides of the border.

“Canada and the U.S. share the largest bilateral trade and investment relationship in the world, supporting millions of jobs on both sides of the border,” said Rick Tachuk, President of AmCham Canada. “U.S. businesses operating in Canada buy Canadian goods and services, employ Canadian workers, and generate economic growth in every region of the country. We must remember that the Canada-U.S. partnership makes North American goods more globally competitive, and that tariffs and counter-tariffs harm our shared economic prosperity.

Cross-border trade between Canada and the U.S. exceeds $1.1 trillion annually, thanks to highly integrated economies across critical sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and energy.  New trade barriers create uncertainty, disrupt businesses and raise prices for consumers in both countries.

“In addition to pro-growth policies that lower costs and eliminate barriers, businesses crave stability and certainty. It is time to restore predictability to the Canada-U.S. trade relationship and work together to create new opportunities and sources of prosperity for both Canadian and American workers, businesses and families.”
