Statement from Rick Tachuk, President, American Chamber of Commerce in Canada
The American Chamber of Commerce in Canada welcomes today’s decision to remove certain counter-tariffs and thanks the Government of Canada for taking steps that will ease pressure on businesses and consumers. Removing counter-tariffs where they cause the most harm demonstrates a commitment to practical solutions that support competitiveness and affordability.
We continue to encourage both the Trump administration and the Carney government to work together on reducing and ultimately eliminating tariffs that add costs, disrupt integrated supply chains, and raise prices for consumers. In particular, we urge a fresh review of existing auto tariffs with the goal of alleviating the burden on workers, families, and businesses across North America.
Canada has an opportunity to showcase itself as a reasonable and results-focused trading partner while protecting the millions of jobs and the prosperity that depend on a strong Canada-U.S. relationship. AmCham Canada will continue to support every effort to secure a fair resolution that strengthens our trading partnership.
