2nd Biennial Ontario-New York Legal Summit
When: Friday, March 28, 2014 - 09:00 - Monday, March 31, 2014 - 17:00

The American Chamber of Commerce is pleased to support the much anticipated biennial Legal Summit sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association entitled “1 Legal System + 2 Jurisdictions = Infinite Opportunity”, which will take place on March 28, 2014 in Toronto and March 31, 2014 in New York City.

With ever-increasing trade and business across the U.S.- Canadian border, lawyers must keep abreast of cross-border legal issues in order to best serve their clients’ needs and increase their own business development opportunities. Canada and the U.S. share a common legal system, and, while they are separate and distinct jurisdictions, the interface of the Canadian and U.S. economies provides nearly infinite opportunity.

The features of the common legal system, highlighted by the different approaches to various challenges and issues in the two jurisdictions will be explored at the Summit, which features 18 CLE/CPD-eligible panels covering a wide range of issues, such as cross-border taxation, cross-border financing transactions, multijurisdictional class litigation, alternate dispute resolution and resources, mining and energy. In addition there will be plenary sessions in both Ontario – New York Legal Summit Toronto and NYC, in which it is planned to feature high level federal, state and provincial officials.

Participants will be able to choose three sessions plus a plenary session each day from among the offerings. The cost is $300 (one day) or $500 (both days) for members and $400 (one day) and $600 (both days) for non-members of the New York State Bar Association.

Lauren Rachlin, Partner at Hodgson Russ LLP is program chair of the event.
