In keeping with its mandate to support and facilitate cross-border trade and business relations, AmCham Atlantic is supporting the APTA’s 2008 International Transportation Summit being held in Halifax on October 21-22, 2008. AmCham is pleased to have arranged for Mr. Paul Morris, an Executive Director with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security, from Washington, DC, to be a key presenter at the Summit.

Halifax, NS (October 16, 2008) – One of the most exciting conferences in Atlantic Canada’s road transportation industry will get under way in Halifax, Tuesday, October 21, with Premier Rodney MacDonald scheduled to make a guest appearance at the opening reception.
The Maritime Kitchen Party will give a traditional Atlantic welcome to world leaders in transportation, trade and border security and a rousing kick off to the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s first-ever International Transportation Summit.
Nova Scotia’s senior Member of Parliament, The Honourable Peter MacKay, has been invited to give welcoming remarks the following morning to lead off a full day of presentations and panel discussions on the global challenges and opportunities facing the multi-modal transportation sector in the 21st century.
Paul Morris, a senior executive with U.S. Homeland Security, is among the high profile guest speakers to give presentations on Wednesday, October 22. The Executive Director for Admissibility and Passenger Programs, Office of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will speak on the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and the future status of in-transit freight movement in North America.
There will also be a special presentation on the new environmentally friendly and energy efficient technology that’s being adopted by the transportation sector, entitled the “Green Gateway”, plus an economic forecast for the industry in 2009 and an overview of Cianbro’s billion dollar toll road proposal to link Maine to Quebec
Maria Luisa O’Connell, president of the Border Trade Alliance, will headline a noon hour luncheon. Her remarks will precede a panel discussion on Atlantic Gateway, anchored by Charles Cirtwill, executive director of the Atlantic Institute of Market Studies and Rob Robichaud, president and CEO of the Greater Moncton International Airport Authority.
The conference’s stellar line-up of speakers also includes the CEOs of road transport associations from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, who will lead an exchange of ideas and information on moving business beyond Atlantic Canada’s borders.
Canada’s former top solider General Rick Hillier will cap off the event when he presents the keynote address at the summit’s closing gala dinner."
